The Prodigy Advance2 base and the Railpower 1370 DC Throttle box can be mounted on a shelf under the layout I think that running a 120V outlet to them makes sense. A 120VAC to 5VDC converter feeds the various LEDs indicating switch position. The switches SW1 (DCC Power) and SW2 (DC Power) are simply “On/Off” switches for the DCC and DC which feeds a 120V split Duplex outlet which finally feeds power to the DCC and DC boxes.

Currently I have a flat power strip feeding a duplex outlet center of the layout which feeds the two fluorescent layout lights over the long side of the layout and another duplex outlet in the corner which feeds the fluorescent lighting on the short leg of the L-shaped layout. Since I need a duplex outlet for feeding the DC and DCC boxes .. and the 120VAC to 5VSC converter I need a minimum of three outlets so I need to address that early on so I don’t have a jumble of power strips. Outlets: The next step was to work on the outlets. Years ago before I put in my layout I had an 8-gang outlet cluster in the wall. In the time since I ran power from one of the outlets to a surface-mount raceway to put a series of outlets just below the layout and above the multiple bookshelf units I put in to store all my “stuff” in plastic Sterilite 6 Quart Storage Boxes. Now I needed to re-vamp all of that to push all the outlets inline above the bookshelf units and below the layout. This needed doing since where I put the DCC and DC boxes, outlets etc. depends on the position of those outlets. So … away I went. In the photo I have just finished sealing up the openings I made to get to the wiring and am waiting for it to dry overnight. (11/15/25)
