Rowboats

This stack of O scale Rusty Stumps rowboats are actually seconds that Walt sent to me. The wall thickness was too thin which I corrected but I realized that I could stack them so only the “good side” would show.

I primered the rowboats from a spray can and then used thinned cheap craft acrylic paint While generally craft paints such as Apple Barrel are much lower pigment density and may be chalky … they worked perfectly for me to replicate the worn, chalky surface I waned for these rowboats.

The building you just can see is Jukes Boat Rental which rents out these rowboats to those in need.

Like is often done on a model railroad layout these boats are smaller than an average rowboat might be. Rowboats generally run from about 14 to 22 feet in length while these are on the smallish size at about 10 feet in length. This was the length of the original that I modified for the Rusty Stumps line.

Here’s some prints I made during the test phase .. I changed the original design which had the seat boards printed as part of the rowboat (on the left) by removing the seat boards(center and right). This greatly simplified the printing with the seat boards added later made from stripwood.

I also have another version not shown here with the seats extruded from the boat and no space under the seat .. again .. to simplify printing the rowboats since supports are reduced.

Here a couple of guys are enjoying a day on the water, making sure they have the supplies needed for the day out.
