About 2010 I joined up with Gary Wise, Andrew Gillette and others to form “The Carolina Conspiracy” On30 Modular Club. I used the “California Central Coast Module Standards” for building our modules. I built two 4′ modules for myself and another two for Gary. We took the modules to the 2011 Narrow Gauge Convention in Hickory, NC (except for Andrew who was still in the Air Force at the time and was somewhere in the Middle East I think).
I had a great time at the convention but was less so with how long it took to connect the modules. The biggest problem was that there was not someone enforcing the standards for interconnecting the modules. There was a clear, precise set of instructions which no one seemed capable of following. The only modules that followed that guide was my modules and those I made for Gary. Honestly, this put me off the modular group as I felt something as basic as connecting the modules was of most importance and that soured everything for me.
When I got back I put my two modules up on my bedroom wall to form a 8′ long side of an “L shape” layout, mounting the modules on heavy duty shelf brackets. I added a 8′ section forming the short leg of the L which added 2′ to the original modules ending up with a 8’x10′ L shaped layout where it has remained since.
